“What do y'all use to message students?” This question shows up in youth ministry groups every few weeks, and lately it comes with another one: “Is Remind ending texts?”
Here is the honest answer. Remind no longer offers text (SMS) notifications on its free Remind Chat to anyone outside a verified U.S. K–12 school. A church youth group falls outside that group. Your messages can still go out by app or email, but not by text. In September 2026, Remind also said it will focus on individual teachers and organizations outside K–12 schools. It said it will share more about those changes early next year. If texting students and parents is how your ministry stays in touch, it makes sense to look at your options. Bring is one of them.
Remind's Help Center says that only verified members of verified U.S. K–12 schools can send SMS through Remind Chat. The reason it gives is “conditions set by phone carriers.” Other Chat users can still message people who have app or email notifications turned on. Remind Hub, the paid product, is still offered to organizations outside K–12 schools. If your church is on Remind Hub, check your own plan before deciding anything. We would rather you switch for good reasons than out of panic.
Changes to texting are usually just what gets the conversation started. The bigger reason is that most ministries run on a patchwork: Remind for announcements, a group chat for students, a form for camp, a spreadsheet for attendance. Some leaders have tried other texting tools, such as Clearstream, Text In Church, or Gloo. Often they find the tool handles the texting but leaves everything else in separate apps.
Parents mostly want to know what's happening, when it is, and what it costs. In Bring, families can sign up and register in one place, including paying for events. Parents can also see what was taught on Sunday and get conversation questions they can use at the dinner table. Many parents will need fewer texts once they can find the answer themselves.
There is no perfect number, but a pattern that works for many groups looks like this:
Push notifications are a good fit for routine reminders. Save SMS for the moments that matter, which also keeps your texting bill with your SMS provider low.
Messaging connects to everything else in Bring. Students can invite a friend to an event with a link or QR code. You can take attendance and see first-time guests, run camp registration with cabin and bus assignments, and plan lessons with discussion questions and a teaching calendar. Each student's profile brings together their family connections, groups, attendance, and lesson progress. See the full list of apps Bring replaces.

Not for everyone. Remind Chat can only send SMS for verified U.S. K–12 school members. Other groups, churches included, can still reach people on Remind Chat through the app or email.
